After seeing some amazing modern freight cars and locomotives at the RPM in Collinsville, Illinois last month I decided to model the Bagnell Branch as if it hadn’t been abandoned in 1962 and was still operational in 1980. I put up all the railroad depots, outhouses, tool houses and the 1950 era freight cars and put down the Athearn Genesis MP GP15-1 and GP38-2, a few freight cars I’d bought at the meet and the Bluford Shops caboose. So the Mopac was in place but it needed a modern Rock Island in the mix. I’d socked away a RI Bachmann GP7 with DCC and sound when they were $109 and stripped the paint off using 91% rubbing alcohol. Tru-Color RI blue and white were used with a Heald King decals. The only modifications to the shell were removing the foot boards and replacing with .010 plastic to resemble the RI prototype. I also added lift rings and hand grabs up the front and rear noses and sun shades.
