I’m certainly not an expert in railroad financing or leasing of equipment under an equipment trust but I believe if the Union Pacific were to move these MP cars under the UP’s ownership rather than the Mopac’s the bankers could negotiate a new (higher) finance rate. While I was still working for UP I saw many newly built covered hoppers with CMO reporting marks. So I think its done for a cost saving reason. Am sure others can correct me or add to this conversion.
So does this mean that as soon as the last car (from the MP-UP merger) still carrying MP reporting marks is scrapped the the MP will be truly gone from the rails? Or, are new cars being put on the rails with MP reporting marks?
