The photo of the sample car looks like it has plastic couplers. When asked, their customer service replied “We do not use plastic couplers on any of our HO rolling stock. Our models all come with metal #5 equivalent couplers, but we are looking into tooling a new scale head coupler in the future. “

Still, $49.95 is pretty steep for any RTR freight car.
