Tom Broadaway, former locomotive engineer on the Carthage Subdivision, passed away on January 21, 2016
Obituary:
Mr. Thomas Leroy Broadaway, 63, of Carthage, Missouri, formerly of Sarcoxie, Missouri, departed this life on Thursday, January 21, 2016, in the comfort of his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Thomas entered this life on August 11, 1952, in Joplin, Missouri, born to the union of the late Monte R. Broadaway, Sr. and Juanda Mae “Wick” (Wright) Broadaway. He was raised in Sarcoxie, Missouri and was a 1970 graduate of Sarcoxie High School. He furthered his education at School of the Ozarks and graduated from Missouri Southern State College in Joplin. In 1976 he began his career with Union Pacific Railroad as an engineer, retiring in 2007. He was past secretary of the United Transportation Union, Past Grand Bethel Associate Guardian of Wyoming Job Daughters, and Past Associate Guardian of Bethel #39 Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #11 of Carthage, Texas, Sharon Shrine of Tyler Texas, Past Worthy Patron of Chapter #11 Wheatland Wyoming of the Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sarcoxie, Missouri. He enjoyed traveling, watching sports, gardening, as well as spending time with family and friends.
Thomas is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years, Glenna (Moore) Broadaway of the home; three daughters, Sarah Broadaway of Wheatland, Wyoming, Sabrina Broadaway of Rawlins, Wyoming and Stephanie Broadaway also of Rawlins, Wyoming; four brothers, Monte Broadaway, Jr. of Disney, Oklahoma; Dave Broadaway of Valley View, Texas, Ken Broadaway of Diamond, Missouri and Brett Broadaway also of Diamond; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services with Masonic rites for Mr. Broadaway are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2016, in the Chapel of Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, Missouri, with Pastor Blaine Nordstorm officiating. Burial will follow in the Sarcoxie Cemetery. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Dave Broadaway, John Nunley, Brian Vasquez, Richard Lewis, Ben Crowder and Monte Ray Broadaway Jr. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Ken Broadaway, Brett Broadaway, David Massey, Mary Lou Crowder, Deb Nunley, Cathy Broadaway and Charlyn Lewis.
