When I first worked as a trainman at Carthage, MO in early 1979, Robbie Holmes was the local chairman for the UTU. He had been on the railroad for several years and was holding a regular pool turn as a conductor. His run was between Carthage and Kansas, City. He was instrumental in helping me transfer from Coffeyville to Carthage. I worked with Robbie many times and it was always an enjoyable experience. He finished his railroad career in Kansas City with the UP.
I’m sorry to report that Robbie passed away on July 3, 2015. Here is his obituary:
Robert V. “Robbie” Holmes, 66 of Kansas City, Missouri passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on July 3, 2015 at NorthCare Hospice House. Robbie was born June 18, 1949 to Victor E. and Betty (Roberts) Holmes in Nevada, Missouri. He retired as a Conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad. Robbie was also a proud member of the Elks Lodge. Survivors include his loving wife, Carolyn (Nichols) Holmes of the home; his daughters; Carri Banes and her husband, Chuck; Casi Hodge and her husband, Jeff; beloved grandchildren; Ryan, Tyler, Grace and Hadley. Services will be 12:00 PM, Friday, July 10, 2015 with Visitation beginning at 11:00 AM at Northland Christian Church; 6120 NE 48th Street; KCMO 64119.
