But …. Werent these scrapped Before Jenks Blue?
These units lasted into the early ’70s. So, they were painted in Jenks blue. The key question is when they were re-engined with EMD equipment. I’m pretty certain some were repainted before getting new paint, but I have no specific details.
Anyone here have one of the earlier ones with a sound install? The model predates the factory on-board sound days.
Doing the RS-12 would be a great project for a 3-D conversion kit. Just not sure Athearn has the right carbody.
We’d need the four number boards, the sheet metal piece above the car body, radiator configuration on the rear of the car body and the spark arresters.

If Athearn made no changes to the shell, it wouldn’t be the right one.
You`ll need a ph.III shell. Steward offered such a kit.
From the photos I have it looks like you could use this for M-I 61 thru 64 as they were the phase 1 bodies. I’m not sure about MI-65 as i dont have a pic of it and MI-66 thru 68 had phase 2 bodies.
