I learned, this morning, that Tom Broadaway passed away after a fight with cancer.

Tom began his career on the Carthage Subdivision and was an engineer for the bulk of his time on the railroad. We worked together for several years in the ’70s and ’80s. We temporarily parted ways when the Carthage Sub. was sold to the MNA. He wrangled a transfer to Cheyenne, WY and I wound up in the Kansas City area. He finished his working career dumping coal trains at a power plant in Texas. When forced to take disability, he returned to his old home in Jasper, MO.

I had the pleasure of visiting with Tom a few times in recent months and we had a great time reminiscing about the old days at Carthage. Tug, as many of us called him, was a good hoghead and he was fun to work with. He will be missed by all that knew him.
