The banquet cost has been finalized at $25.00. This cost is separate from the convention attendance fee. The banquet is a separate event and convention attendance is not required. Also, attending the banquet is a prerequisite to hearing keynote speaker Woody Sutton. You must pay for and attend the banquet in order to hear Woody’s talk. There will be no exceptions. You must register and pay for the banquet in advance. The caterer requires an advance head count and tickets at the door cannot be guaranteed. Here is the Company Store link:

Many activities require advance reservations, so get it done, now. You don’t want to miss out. The banquet on Saturday evening and the tour of Salem Yard are two items that must be reserved in advance. We cannot guarantee availability if you wait until the convention begins. Don’t forget, attending the banquet is a requirement to here our keynote speaker, Woody Sutton. If you don’t pay for a banquet ticket, you will not be allowed in. No exceptions.
This is going to be a great event. Don’t miss out.
September 1, 2017 at 1:44 pm #8452clemmie_doris12ParticipantThe convention is just over a month away. Have you made your reservations, yet? This is going to be a great convention. You won’t want to miss it.
There are lots of great activities lined up and we will be selling models and memorabilia from several collections that were donated to the MPHS.
The early registration price expires today. And, the reserved room block at the hotel goes away in just a few days. Also, the tour of Salem yard is filling up, quickly. Don’t delay, get signed up, today.
You can find all of the information starting at the homepage. Look for the Annual Convention link in the main menu.
October 2, 2017 at 4:03 am #8481clemmie_doris12ParticipantThe convention starts this Thursday. There is still time to get signed up for most of the activities, but you have to act, NOW.
The Saturday evening banquet costs $25.00. We need to know if you are coming. We prefer that you shop online and pay, but at the very least you need to notify us that you are coming by sending an email to [email protected]. The caterer needs a head count early this week.
There are still a few seats available for the tour to Salem Yard. Get signed up, right now. The cost is $20.00 which covers the cost of the vans.
Unfortunately, tables for the Saturday swap meet are sold out.
Our commemorative t-shirts are in stock, but quantities are limited. Order now and save money while guaranteeing that your size will be available. The cost now is $18.00. It will be $20.00 at the convention.
Time for reserving a room at the convention hotel with the group discount is long gone, but rooms MIGHT still be available at the regular rate.

October 10, 2017 at 4:43 pm #8488clemmie_doris12ParticipantThe convention, this past weekend, was great. It was good to see many of our members and to work with our friends from the C&EI HS. I’m sure everyone had a great time. I enjoyed our guest speaker, Woody Sutton. His presentation was excellent. I’m not much of a photographer and did not take any photos at the meet. Hopefully, others in attendance will post some pictures. Thanks to all that helped produce this event. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
October 11, 2017 at 1:54 am #8490benjamintickell53ParticipantThe 2017 convention was another good one – they just keep getting better. Joint conventions, such as this year’s with the C&EI HS, helps to increase the attendance, thus attracting more dealers, more presentations, etc. The swap meet this year was one of the best in recent memory in terms of the volume of material, and the company stores of both MPHS and C&EI HS offered great material for sale. Who would have thought that MP paperwork from Arkansas Division passenger conductors at Little Rock would be found in the $1.00 bargain box of the C&EI group.
The Friday morning tour highlight was visiting the Crab Orchard & Egyptian shortline, where two of the locomotives were ex-Missouri Pacific. Chuck’s Depot, an amazingly well stocked hobby shop in Marion, opened early for the group and enjoyed brisk sales as well as offering a visit to Chuck’s downstairs layout under construction. Excellent driving instructions were distributed to allow participants to quickly find (and photograph) the remaining C&EI depots between Marion and Mt. Vernon.

We were unable to make the Salem tour on Sunday, but those who made the trip saw the MP Heritage locomotive freshly repainted. En route to our next destination, we did make time to visit three former interlocking towers that have been preserved in the area. Vandalia was the former crossing of the Illinois Central and Pennsylvania, Ramsey was the crossing of the same IC line with the Nickel Plate, and Pana was the crossing of the IC and the New York Central. C&EI had trackage rights over the NYC between Pana and St. Louis.

As we returned back home, we visited the former MP station at Dexter, MO and the former MR&BT (M-I) station at Bonne Terre, MO.

We will be looking forward to next year’s Austin convention, perhaps with the opportunity to ride Amtrak’s Texas Eagle in place of this year’s long road trip.
