Here are three photos from my Dad of MP 4102 (NW-4) off the rails and MPX-100 putting her right. It’s highly likely this is in Wichita, Kansas. I believe she was built 8/38 and scrapped 2/24/61; my guess is this was earlier in her career rather than later, but after 1945 when Dad returned from the war and signed on with MoPac. Anything else interesting you see?

The stack extensions.
The tanks make me think this occurred somewhere near the Derby refinery, just to the east of the main line, north of 21st St. and south of the yard. But the background of trees and perhaps houses contradicts that. A lot of the area north of 21st in that area was more populated then, before it was urban renewed in the 60s, so it might still be possible.

Looks like the Captain, I mean engineer stayed with the ship while it was being rerailed. Also noticed what appears to be a Mopac panel-side gondola in the foreground.

Nate, that may or may not have been the engineer. I would be more inclined to think it was a mechanical department employee. He was probably there to release and/or apply the brakes during the rerailing process. They might have had to frog the other end back on the rail and that would also require someone to operate the locomotive.
