Tangent just announced a Mopac painted flatcar with bulkheads. Looking at the model there’s no Eagle logo so I’m pretty sure this is a post merger paint scheme. It’s a shame David didn’t do the buzz saw or Eagle versions of this car as it would have appealed to both MP and UP modelers.
As it stands now he’s only targeted the UP crowd with this model. Needless to say I won’t be stocking these in the company store.

On a related note, I’ve found a photo, not a ‘builder’s photo’, of the MP 9850 series 60′ Commonwealth flatcar at the builder, posed in front of the building where builder’s photos would be taken, but with a dozen guys standing in front of it. I think this photo actually is on one of those photo CDs that are available. At all events, it gives me a pretty good idea of where the important lettering is, so I might fake it. I bought two undecs when the model was first released, in hopes that I would find a photo.

A “true” MoPac scheme would have periods after the M and P and the font, if not different would be smaller. Also, you will note the UP car type code (starts with F) which the MP never used prior to the merger.
I may buy one or both of these cars. But, they will get a rework on the decals if I do. I really have no desire to model anything post-merger.
June 19, 2018 at 2:25 am #8815madonnasuffolk30ParticipantOne possible reason David didn’t offer a “true” Mopac paint scheme is due to the Mopac cars being delivered with a combination (alternating) metal and wood bulkhead face. There are a couple builders photos from the MPHS archives that show this in detail. I sent the photos to David several years ago and he pointed out the bulkhead difference. The models are accurate for cars that had the bulkheads replaced to solid metal at some point – probably at time of repaint. I wanted to purchase undecorated kits to try to replicate the alternating face, but I believe they are already sold out.
Haven’t visited the forum for a while.

It appears that both the undec and kit versions of this run are sold out. Obviously, David underestimated the demand.June 19, 2018 at 4:55 am #7268Dennis FairclothParticipantThat is disappointing that the kits are sold out already, as I was hoping to try kitbashing one of the cars modified for Armco coiled wire rod service. (Not wire, as it is often misidentified.) The Tangent models bulkhead side cutouts, both in size and quantity, and do not match the Armco cars I have photos for.
June 25, 2018 at 3:41 pm #8833clemmie_doris12ParticipantI wish I had a dollar for every one of those rod cars that I spotted to the wire mill at Carthage. I would be interested in several of these if someone ever decided to make an accurate model in HO. I know that is probably not going to happen, but who knows?
June 25, 2018 at 10:43 pm #8836madonnasuffolk30ParticipantThe undecorated kit is in stock. It was an oversight on part of the website and has been fixed. I ordered mine and will pick it up at the St. Louis RPM meet. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
