I don’t know if anyone has seen the announcement for Mopac Jenks Blue GP18’s. They are high hood versions. I thought most all were chopped with low hoods pretty early in their lives. The road numbers are 512,516 and 527. This seems like a small window for these before their short hoods. Anyone have any dates that these would have run with their high hoods or when changed?

Nate Obermeyer was the MPHS lead working with Athearn. They did not want to do low nose versions as the tooling for the run was only high nose GP-18’s. He and others did the research and these units are the ones never changed.

    Thanks Charlie,
I did find a pix of 512 in the late sixties. I will be ordering a couple of these. They will look good with the Genesis Gp7’s I have and the new F’s when they come out.

    Steve,

Athearn didn’t want to do any new tooling so the GP18s are accurate from circa 1962/4ish to 1967/70ish depending on which road number. These all received low noses and 2000 gallon fuel tanks when modified.
