David Husman was called to his heavenly home on August 25, 2024, at the age of 68 years, one month, and two days. He was born on July 23, 1956.

He was married to Mollie Renner Husman for over 41 years.

Dave graduated in 1974 from Methacton High School, located near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He went on to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Drexel University in 1979. Dave worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad which later merged with Union Pacific Railroad. He and his family lived in several states over the course of his career. Most of his career was spent in Omaha, Nebraska, where he retired after 37+ years of service. Dave was an expert when it came to model railroading – his lifelong hobby. He knew everything about it from planning, to building, to operating. He was a beloved member of model railroading communities near and far. He was a man of faith who believed in leaving things better than how he found them.

Dave’s parents, Ernie and Betty Laws Husman; and his brothers-in-law Bill Henderson and Ted Hammett preceded him in death.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Mollie; their children Andy Husman, Travis Husman (Sarah-Wonder), and Hannah Husman; his sister Diane Henderson (Bill); his brother-in-law Steve Renner; his sister-in-law Becky Hammett (Ted); his nephews David Henderson, Wes Renner (Nicole), Brett Hammett, Aaron Renner (Chantal), and Daniel Renner; his nieces Melanie Medendorp (Jake), and Brittney Schrick (Zach); numerous great-nephews and great-nieces; and many dear friends from Union Pacific and model railroading communities.

Dave was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend who was always ready with a pun and a helping hand. He was a fabulous problem solver; he could always see the big picture to develop a path from start to finish. Dave embraced everyone who entered his home with an open heart, and his handshake always conveyed his humor and his warmth.

On Sunday, August 18, 2024, Dave took his family to Werner Park to watch a Storm Chasers game. During the game, Dave suffered a massive stroke. Despite the efforts of on-site medical staff, the wonderful team at Bergan Mercy Hospital, and the love and constant prayers of so many wonderful friends and family, the severity of his injuries could not be overcome. An organ donor, Dave had previously made the conscious choice to make his final act one of selflessness. Dave’s family takes comfort in the knowledge that his generosity will help others live on. His family feels certain that his final gift will include his love of humor, and their prayers are that each organ recipient will enjoy life.

A time of gathering to visit with Dave’s family and friends will be on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 10:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM, at Roeder Mortuary, 2727 N. 108th Street, Omaha, NE 68164.
