The MPHS board of directors is searching for a location and convention host for 2018. We would prefer a city in Oklahoma. Locations under consideration are Tulsa, Muskogee and Ft. Smith, AR (almost Oklahoma). We would be interested in hearing any pros and cons concerning these or other locations. We would entertain volunteers for hosting this meeting, also.
Please don’t be bashful. Let us know what you think. Thanks.

A&M is the old Frisco, but there was a Little Rock-Monett Pullman car line at one time, so that might qualify as a MP historical connection.
Muskogee has the museum in the former Midand Valley-KO&G station as well as a few other historical sites nearby.
Tulsa — not sure about any real MoP connection there, always a Frisco and Santa Fe town. Might be easier to find hotel facilities in Tulsa compared to Muskogee, but the hotel pricing would no doubt be higher.
I would be happy to attend any of those locations, my preference ranking would probably be as listed above.

A portion of the line in Tulsa is still operated by the Tulsa-Sapulpa Union RR. I believe the depot at Jenks, OK, just east of Tulsa is still standing, not sure the status of the museum that was located there.

Living in Arkansas my choice may be a little biased but Fort Smith would be my first choice.
1. Lots of history and things to do in Fort Smith and neighboring Van Buren for both members and spouses.
2. Rich railroad history.
3. Close to yards and active railroads. Fort Smith Railroad, UP, A&M. “Possible Yard Tour?” “Excursion on the A&M?”
4. Easy travel to location. (I-40, Close to regional airport)

I agree, lots to do in Ft. Smith plus there’s the trolley/railroad museum and their RR library. We need a motel that has a meeting room that holds 100 people and areas for our swap meet. Frisco depot I believe is still there and the MP freight house.Charlie

A&M even had a MoPac heavyweight baggage with a Clerestory roof. I almost wish the SLSF society was more structured since a joint meeting would be great.
With the Muskogee roads nearby, that is another tie-in.
