The opportunity to ride a regularly scheduled passenger train over the 31-plus miles of former Texas & Pacific trackage between Dallas and Fort Worth ended on December 16, 2015, when Amtrak Texas Eagle trains 21 and 22 made “last runs” over this section of railroad. Beginning on December 17, these trains now operate over the Trinity Railway Express (former Rock Island) between Dallas and Fort Worth, a long sought arrangement which will significantly reduce delays and also reduce congestion at Tower 55 in Fort Worth. The Metroplex region is in an expansion mode in terms of regional passenger rail operation, and some future plans call for commuter service along the T&P (UP) through Arlington, so the “freight only” status may again disappear sometime in the future.

MP (T&P) passenger service over this segment ended in May 1969 and Amtrak service (originally called the Inter-American) restored passenger service between Dallas and Fort Worth in March 1974.
