Recent photos of the bridge over Kingshighway in St. Louis. It has said ROUTE OF THE EAGLES for decades, but the paint is now so worn you can now see ROUTE OF THE SUNSHINE SPECIAL underneath.

Also attaching some 1950’s Jim Ozment/Western Rail Images photos of the bridge after an incident.

Does anyone know when the bridge was built?

That Soo Line boxcar had to have rolled over a few times to get down in the road. Yet it looks almost undamaged, odd ……….

From what I heard it rolled down the hill off an industrial spur

The car got away on a spur that came down off of the main. You can’t see it, but it is behind the car in the photo that shows the car and not the bridge. Obviously, the track ended somewhere prior to encountering the roadway. The MP used dirt berms at the end of many spur tracks. They were not very good at stopping cars that had a lot of momentum. I can attest to that from first hand experience.
