Added a little rust to the sides using Lamp Black and Burnt Sierra oil paints. Now just need to mask off an area for the car being renumbered into the six digit series. [attachment=0:3g8dmj2o]image.jpg[/attachment:3g8dmj2o]

I did add a patch panel of Tru-Color 139 which is the 1962 MP freight car color but when I sprayed the Dullcote over the reporting marks it faded almost to the original shade of the car body so that ended up being a waste of time. I used a Mask Island decal set to get the right height and MP standard for the reporting marks. Working on a re-weigh decal set and will add a 1978 reweigh date and location when they are produced and the COTS squares as well to the right side of the car body. Thinking too the roof may get painted silver and weathered ‘one of these days’ but for now it’s the same color as the sides. Sometimes, for me, it’s better to let a model sit for a few weeks and then come back and add the additional painting steps and not hurry the project along.
Looking back this was an easy three day project. I removed the rivets and rescribed the car body Saturday, painted and decaled Sunday and finished it Monday. It’s not an Exactrail model but it stands up pretty well next to one.

Dullcote does hide minor color variations. Your experience emphasizes that contrast may need to be exaggerated on HO scale models.

Charlie,
I am very interested in this car, as well. If the IMRC car is correct in all the mechanical aspects, we might have to talk to them about a special run.
Looks like the issue might be the Superior door. I don’t think Intermountain offers it in their kit. At least the one I bought came with a Youngstown door and I didn’t see Superior doors on their web page of parts.
