Hello all!
I recently acquired this spike. Although I looked everywhere on the internet about it, I couldn’t find anything leading to it. I am assuming the then president of the DQ&E was the son of the one who brought the lumber mill and railroad to Dierks and the town was named after.
According to the spike this took place where the MoPac connected with the DQ&E in an area call Perkins, Ar. This was on the timetable listed as a Yard limit and interchange for the shortline. It states that the ceremony was on Jan 19, 1957. Maybe Mr. Neff and Mr. Dierks were there? How many of these “souvenirs” were manufactured I don’t know. I am assuming it was enough for the VIP whom were there. I attached photos of the spike in question.
If anyone have any information at all it will be greatly appreciated.
Clayton T.
