It has recently come to my attention that in the late 1970’s, Detroit Edison was a visitor to the Mopac. From what I was told, empty DEEX trains would come into Chicago. The train would retain its DEEX power and a MoPac unit would be put on the lead and crewed by MP. The train would head south to the mines and load up and then head back north again. MoPac power would be cut off in Chicago and the DEEX trains would head onto their destination.

Does anyone here have more information on this?

Is there a back issue of the Eagle Magazine that has an article on this?

I have been wanting to model some DEEX power and this gives me a reason to without straying away from modeling the MP.

The Detroit Edison trains operated on the MP-UP to two destinations. Monroe, Michigan on the CN and Trenton, Michigan on the NS. They all ran with DEEX cars. To my knowledge the MP-UP power ran thru to the destination of these trains. They did not change power at Chicago. These trains were delivered to CN and NS at Chicago. My information is from the 90’s to date. I have no knowledge of how these trains were handled in the 70’s. Also during this time the coal was being loaded in the Powder River Basin in Wyoming.
