Hello forum members,
Approximately what years did the Missouri Pacific use the E6’s on the Colorado Eagle?
Thanks,
Larry Winfrey
Approximately 1942 to 1948. They were still used after 1948, but other power was also used (E7s and PAs). The railroad got a bit loose assigning power after the war. Jerry
Jerry,
Would the E6’s make it into the early 60’s or were they off the roster by then?
Larry
Larry, I believe they were active in the 1960s. I have seen a photo if at least one in solid blue, which would mean at leasr 1962 when the repainting was carried out. Jerry
I don’t know if it’s relevant but I saw Jenks blue E units in New Orleans in 1964. It was from a distance so I don’t know specifically which units exactly.
At the time I also saw E’s from KCS, L&N, SR and maybe IC. The family stayed a couple of days at a hotel right near the approach to NOUPT, what a deal for a 16 yr old railfan. Why no camera and no attempt to get trackside or take notes, aggghhh. Those were the days my friend. We thought they’d never end.
Thanks Pat and Jerry for your replies.
I’m looking at a Jenks blue brass set of E6’s for sale. I think I will use them on my shortened version of the Colorado Eagle.
Larry
