The new season of Finding Your Roots on PBS starts this week. One of the episodes this season features Mary Steenburgen whose Father and Grandfather worked for Missouri Pacific. MPHS assisted with the research for this episode which is scheduled to air the week of October 17. We provided a few photos they may use on the show.

We also furnish a copy of a dispatcher sheet showing her father I believe as a conductor.

The program was quite disappointing when it aired, at least for anyone viewing it with the hope that the Missouri Pacific railroader connection would be explored. Discussion of two generations of railroaders was glossed over in less than 30 seconds, complete with a video of some totally unrelated Great Northern train (a train is a train is a train mentality). The ancestry of three separate people was discussed during the hour, so perhaps there wasn’t time to spend on something as mundane as a lifetime career on the railroad.
