Mike Adams once told me about owning a toy train back when he was 5 or 6 that was lettered for the Sunshine Special. This would have been in the last 1920’s so I started doing some web searches to see what manufacturers made this famous train. What I found was Haftner made the set by merely lettering their inexpensive Overland passenger set for the Sunshine Special. The cars were made of lithographed tin with the passenger sets made in both red and light yellow cars.

The origin set came with a cast iron or tin steam locomotive, a tender, two coaches and an observation car. These aren’t rare as they were made for many years by Haftner and show up on eBay often.
