I’ve seen boxcar red , grey, silver, and black. Is there any system as to what gets what color? I’ve seen ex passenger equipment in all but black, I’ve seen water tank cars in BC red and black. Personally I like the mix of different colors.

Anorther question. Did MP ever use old steam engine tenders as tank cars in MOW service?

    Here’s my 2 cents worth:
1930’s through 1950’s MoW cars were the same color as the freight car fleet. Boxcar Brown. Occupied outfit cars received yellow ends and the yellow wrapped around the car body 2’-3’ for additional visibility. Some 36’ MoW boxcars were painted a light gray/aluminum color but this appears to be a limited practice. In the late 1960’s to merger occupied outfit cars were aluminum. Some photos in the early years have again yellow ends. Tool cars were freight car red.

The MP did use old steam tenders in MOW service, even in the steam era. Jerry

I started a new topic for steam locomotive tender in MoW service so it could be easily found in future searches.
