Former Missouri Pacific Railroad 4-6-0 steam locomotive #2522 sits on display in the Paris, Arkansas city park. The locomotive is supposed to move to the new Mining Museum, which is on the site of the former Paris Railyard. Hopefully after the move the locomotive will get some much deserved TLC.

December 11, 2015 at 4:05 am #7593Patrick FloryParticipantI know the roof has been over it for at least a decade. I’ve got some old photos that I took with a disposable camera back in 2005 and it shows the roof over it.

Any more details on what the plans are for restoring and displaying the locomotive? Hopefully the bell and headlight were saved. This and the ex-Iron Mountain 4-6-0 at the NMoT are the only Mopac steam locomotives still around.December 11, 2015 at 10:38 pm #7597Patrick FloryParticipantThe bell and headlamp are long gone. They were stolen after the locomotive was moved to the park. I have no connection with the Miner’s Memorial Museum in Paris, but this is what I have heard from friends that volunteer there. The locomotive will actually be displayed across the street from the miner’s memorial museum in front of the site of the former Paris depot. A replica depot is in future plans, but that will be a long way off. When restored the engine will have Missouri Pacific Lines lettering on the engineers side, and Ft. Smith, Subiaco, & Rock Island on the fireman’s side. It will some time before they get to the locomotive. The museum is relatively new, and they have several projects going on.

I don’t think it was purchased by the Mopac but we can call it a first cousin.
December 25, 2015 at 5:16 am #7648evangeline.higginsParticipantI attended my second MPHS annual meet in 1987. It was held in Kansas City. On my return I drove down to Paris, Arkansas to see if there was still a reported MP steam engine there. It took a while to find it but MP 2522 was sitting there in a park next to a school and it was in the clear with no fence or other obstacles in the way. I spent a whole day climbing all over it and shooting photos of everything. I had two cameras with me, a Canon AT-1 loaded with Kodachrome 64 slide film and the other my daughters Nikon loaded with 400 Kodacolor print film. I shot 49 color slides, 151 color prints and after I used up all of my color print film I stopped and found a store and bought a few rolls of B X W and shot all of them. I don’t think I missed a single rivet on that dude. No one said a word about me climbing all over the thing and I still think that was one of the best days I ever had around a steam engine. I spent so much time there that I had to spend the night in Paris as it got too late to get back on the road.
