That was a common MOW vehicle in the late ’70s and early’80s. It was amazing, the amount of work the track gangs did with this vehicle. No fancy hydraulic stuff like you see, today.

I was on a lot of work trains in the early years of my career. As a consequence, I rode in the doghouse on one of these trucks many times. I even have a few hours driving a truck like this along with some hours in the roadmaster’s pickup. The atmosphere was a lot different at that time compared to today. There were no such thing as a CDL and the can-do attitude crossed craft lines with company assets being used by whoever needed it. You won’t see that today because everyone is too concerned about some form of liability.
