My friend in England asked the following:
“I assume real T&P locos did not have graphite boilers in regular service, but they may have had red lead paint on their cab roofs????? Do you know how the T&P painted their engines in the heyday of small steam?”
He is trying to model a couple of small TP steamers. Can anyone help him?
bargetanikaParticipantbargetanikaParticipantI saw one once that someone had extended the pilot, added a pony truck, and made what looked like a Super Power 2-8-0 that Lima might have made, it was actually kind of neat .
The useless “trains” that your well meaning but clueless friends give you, that’s a fun discussion in itself. I’ve always done steam branchlines, but once someone gave me one of those UP 4 truck huge-mama-jama turbines that I had to put on the track whenever they came over.
bargetanikaParticipantIs that an “AHM 0-8-0” poking out of the engine house? I always wanted one when I was a kid.
bargetanikaParticipantI remember MP cabooses, especially the short bay window ones, in New Orleans until at least the very late 1980’s, on transfer runs past my house on the NS “back belt.”
KCS was still running F unit slugs on the same line at that time too. O the golden days! The last vestiges of Classic Railroading!
bargetanikaParticipantCharlie I will take all three. Let me know when they arrive.
bargetanikaParticipantThe photo of the sample car looks like it has plastic couplers. When asked, their customer service replied “We do not use plastic couplers on any of our HO rolling stock. Our models all come with metal #5 equivalent couplers, but we are looking into tooling a new scale head coupler in the future. “
Still, $49.95 is pretty steep for any RTR freight car.
bargetanikaParticipantbargetanikaParticipantThey “are “ HO scale, right?
bargetanikaParticipantAre they going to be in the company store?
bargetanikaParticipantLaff No. 3
Some seller thinks someone is actually going to buy this! At that price!
bargetanikaParticipantLaff no. 2, or maybe a mystery, how Tyco came up with NOT&M for a toy train set “cattle car.”
bargetanikaParticipantI don’t ever run my tangent tank cars, or my Kadee tank cars anymore. If you breathe on them wrong something breaks. My layout is small and can only take 30 cars at I time. To run them all at one time or another I have to pack them on and off. Tangent and Kadee tank cars, and the Intermountain welded 10,000 gal cars, can’t take that handling. They are staying packed up until I move someplace with room for a 200 car layout.
bargetanikaParticipantUp there with these stories is the T&NO 2-10-2 In Houston on display at a BRAND NEW museum without its tender, that got sold off to an operator because the engine with tender “wouldn’t fit” in the NEW building.
bargetanikaParticipantThe pictures are particularly valuable.
