I’m certainly not an expert in railroad financing or leasing of equipment under an equipment trust but I believe if the Union Pacific were to move these MP cars under the UP’s ownership rather than the Mopac’s the bankers could negotiate a new (higher) finance rate. While I was still working for UP I saw many newly built covered hoppers with CMO reporting marks. So I think its done for a cost saving reason. Am sure others can correct me or add to this conversion.

So does this mean that as soon as the last car (from the MP-UP merger) still carrying MP reporting marks is scrapped the the MP will be truly gone from the rails? Or, are new cars being put on the rails with MP reporting marks?

Received my copy of this book today. Looks to be very interesting reading.

I will report more when I get further into it,

To me this looks like the old Ramax car kits of the 70’s. They were 40′ flat side kits, that built up
    very nicely.

    Charlie,

the decals are no problem. I have more then 10 sets for EMS box cars.

More than I probably need 😆

Can you perhaps take some photos of your 40′ EMS box car of all sides.

So I could use these photos to measure.

    Charlie,

thanks for answer. The chance to get one of these Sunshine model is low.

Is there a detailed drawing of this car, that can be used for a kit batched model ?

They offer a lot of car end parts so there should be a good chance to model it correctly.

This is a model painted with Tru-Color “MP hopper gray”

Perhaps you can see the light blueish touch.

In answer to Jenks Blue Pant. Trucolor paint has it already mixed as TCP120. This paint is very nice to use–dries fast and goes on smooth. You have to use their thinner and it is expensive. About 40.00 per quart. It lasts forever, though.

I finally have done some more work on the NdeM Baldwin centipedes. All the conversion metal work has been completed
from the PRR version to the NdeM versions. This one had the roof antenna and all had to be removed.

Basically it was new horns—- round side portholes—new marker and number boards changes.

The drive and motor work had already been done with new Pittman 9000 series motors, there are 2 motors per locomotive.
the model weighs 6 lbs 10 0z. in O scale you need the weight to pull 15- 20 car passenger car trains. This heavy of a model has
no ill effect on performance at all 2 motors at 18 volts draws 1/4 amps. with a heavy train 1/2 amp.

The radius required for these models is large.72– 84 inches

Well the Eagle finally landed in cold Oregon today. It was a very nice issue.

I cant wait to to see the dome car service article in print. That will be a great project
for my O scale cars. Fot both T&P and Mopac.

    Charlie,

for the matt coat I use Mr.Color H20, thinned with Mr.Color Thinner 110.

But be careful – if the H20 is not thinned enough it will dry with a white fade.

Better to thin it a bit more than needed and to add one more layer.

It will also fade a little when it is thin enough when it is applied but when it dries, the fading leaves.

The Vallejo wash don’t have to be thinned, but you could. For thinning I like to use distilled water.

You can see the use of Vallejo white wash on this photo :

The bottom left unit is without fading, the 2 other ones with 5 thin layers. On #1962 I added two more layers in the bottom area.

    Of course, yes, Charlie. Thanks.

First step are 4 thin airbrushed layers with Vallejo 501 white wash. After one night drying I have covered some areas with masking tape.

Then I added 2 more layer of white wash. After drying I removed the masking tape.

Then I mixed Vallejo 505 light rust wash and 517 dark gray wash. All without thinning.

With this mix I added the dirt to the shell, and chassis in several layers with the airbrush.

For the roof I used MIG oil paint. Abt060 Light rust brown for the roof struts, Abt070 dark rust for the rest.

Then I added earth brown scraped chalk thick onto the oil paint and pound it with a short cut brush into the oil paint.

The next day the whole caboose got a coating with matte clear coat.

    Hope it helps.
