I, too, rode the special from St. Louis Union station. Outbound, we were in the last coach. During the return trip we were in the first car behind the power. I can still remember watching the E unit’s upper headlight bounce around thru the door window of the coach. The coach was riding much smoother. Here is a pic that I took while the train laid over at Jeff City.

The following link shows the restored car. They did an outstanding job on the refurbishment.

I have built several of the Union Station Products cars in N Scale. I have done a couple ACF coaches, one ACF diner lounge and a 14-4 Pullman. As a test, I also took one of the ACF diner lounge sides and applied them over a Con-Cor Budd diner. I added slab sides as they appeared on the prototype. It is a way to get a fairly good representation of the MP Budd diner lounge cars.

I suggested that the company add more MP and SL-SF cars to their offerings and he was very willing to do so. I asked him to create the ACF dorm coach sides and they are now listed in the product offerings. Those sides are waiting to be built.

Examples of my MP passenger cars are in the N Scale section.
