Gene L. Semon, Draftsman – In Memoriam

Gene Lane Semon, 72, of Cabot, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022. He was born September 2, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Willis Eugene and Iris Maxine Lane Semon. Gene was educated in mechanical engineering at the University of Missouri at Rolla. Gene’s career in engineering and mechanical design included positions with Missouri Pacific’s Mechanical Engineering Department, Whirlpool and Maybelline and spanned more than 25 years. He was an avid “train guy” from photographing, documenting and chasing down engines across the region to meticulously crafting a HO-scale model train track layout in his home. He served the Missouri Pacific Historical Society as president and edited various publications about the history of the rails in Arkansas and Missouri. One of his favorite engagements was meeting with the “Train Guys” at the hobby shop or one of their layouts, and to enjoy breakfast. His interest in railroads started as a child when he rode with his father down to the Missouri Pacific coach yard to pick up his grandfather, Fred W. Semon, who headed the commissary for the Missouri Pacific passenger trains out of St. Louis. Gene enjoyed cooking his and Cathy’s family recipes for the friends and family as well as his own creations from birthday cakes filled with sprinkles to heirloom pies that came out just right. He quietly and consistently showed his love by taking care of things for his family whether it be serving as the pool guy or the grill master for dinners, outings and vacations. He was a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, Mr. Semon was preceded in death by a brother, Don Semon and a sister, Polly Semon.

Mr. Semon is survived by his wife of 28 years, Cathy J. Semon; children, David Semon, Beverly Semon, Rosemary Semon, Katharine Semon, Scott Perkins and Dennis Perkins; grandchildren, Rafe Semon, Caleb Perkins, Alyssa Perkins, Kevin Semon and Hana Semon.

Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home with Brother Ben Leonard officiating. (501)843-5816.
