Beautifully done history of the D&R, a Class III railroad in Arkansas, tracing it from the earliest days carrying cotton and other agricultural products through the years when anthracite coal both fueled its steam locomotives and provided most of its freight up to its present shortline status. The book also covers the Dardanelle Pontoon Bridge & Turnpike Co., which the railroad owned for a while, and describes its ventures into intermodal traffic through the Dardanelle Transfer Co. Includes extensive discussion of the railroad’s motive power over the years. Illustrated throughout with black and white photos, schematic diagrams of the equipment, and maps.
