    I am looking for information on our 1937 Magor Car Co Steel Caboose. When it left MoPac it had the number 11020. I haven’t seen any info on this caboose yet and would love to know more. It is so like the Magor Car Co cabooses I believe it was part of the first order placed with Magor in 1937.

    Specifically I have a question that applies to many MoPac Cabooses: At the B end of the cupola caboose (same end as stove) there is the door, and often a barred window to the right of the door (standing outside and looking at the end). On the LEFT SIDE of the Door is a smaller recessed rectangular “box.”

    On our caboose there is a hole cut in the back “wall” of the recessed rectangular area. What is this? What is it for? The hole suggests something that would operate in this space was connected to something inside… This is a total mystery to us and as a rail museum we need to be able to answer questions.

    Please don’t freak out over the paint scheme. Our local railroad company was Milwaukee Road. We are posting the actual history of this MoPac Caboose, as well as the story of Milwaukee Road that served our area.

    If I zoom in on the old photo of MP11020, it looks like a pipe extends out of the hole at an upward angle – looks like it might be a filling point for something. But the blueprints form Magor show a bunk inside. Would a pipe run inside to fill something? This caboose had a fire inside before we got it so the wood interior was gone. Hoping someone can enlighten me! Barb
