I am posting the following information on a new book by Wayne Cline.

I am writing to let you and other MPHS members know about my new book, The Texas Railroad.

Subtitled The Scandalous and Violent History of the International and Great Northern Railroad, 1866-1925, it is a comprehensive, illustrated history of this very important predecessor component of the Missouri Pacific.

The Texas Railroad is now available exclusively on Amazon.com. Details about the 362 page book, including the preface and a complete summary of its contents are included on the Amazon.com listing.

This is my second book. The first, Alabama Railroads, was published by the University of Alabama Press in 1997. Research for that book initiated my interest in the International and Great Northern Railroad, but many years were needed to accumulate enough research material to complete this work.

I have done my best to present an accurate and interesting history of the International and Great Northern Railroad and hope it will be of interest to anyone who is interested in Missouri Pacific history.

Could you please let your members know that the book is available.

    Sincerely yours,

    Wayne Cline

Thanks for the heads up – I just ordered one through Smile. I worked a lot between Palestine and Laredo so should be an interesting read.

Has anyone else started reading this book? I got my copy too, but have not had time to do more than glance through it. Looks like a lot of good information.

I encourage you to by this book.

I have completed reading of the first 3 chapters of this great book. Now not being much of a historian when it comes to railroads
but this book interested me because I am a IGN person for this sub of the MPL.

The 3 chapters has a lot of the skulduggery and conniving that went on to build a rail road. send out an inspection train and
end up with terrorist acts and murder a death by wrecking the train, all in 30 miles.

And oh yes the Union Pacific had there hand in a lot of this as well. Really sounds like there was and earlier Bernie Madof
person’s when it came to bonds and money an land grants, a lot of which was never intended to be use for what it it was for.

At this point I can not say if there are any errors in the history the book, so I will say it is accurate as printed. The Author looks to have done
his home work.I would have to say that from what I have read, that considerable years passed to write this.

As I continue to read more chapters, I will write more about the book.

I hope you get something out of what I have to say but please remember it is my opinion only.

    Regards
