While researching the boxcar fleet of the Missouri-Illinois RR predecessors I found some changes in the cars that dont make sense to me. The Mississippi River and Bonne Terre Rwy bought 100 36’8l x 13’6 h boxcars in 1902. Sometime in 1918 or 1919 ( i dont have ORERs for those 2 years) they rebuilt all with the end doors being removed and some getting 6′ instead of 5′ side doors. Only the cars getting 6′ doors still show as being 13’6 tall. All the rest were downsized to 12’6 tall. Was this a normal practice when rebuilding boxcars? Unfortunately the only photo Ive been able to find so far of any of their cars are the 1902 MRBT and Centraila and Chester 1898 builders photos. sorry for the cross post with the yahoo group.

    Thanks,

    Joe Pauley
