Since the MPHS just became an Atlas dealer I just received their catalog. They show a GP7 in the early 1950 blue and grey color scheme – did they ever bring this model out? Was thinking of carrying these in the company store or letting members order them and we’d give a discount. Comments from you O scales guys?
Here’s the page from their catalog

If i remember cleanly they announced this and I do not ever think it was made. I never saw another posting about it.
they did make some very nice Mopac F-3 models, but imported very few.It would have been nice for the O scale side of the hobby. The atlas models in O scale were approaching close to a 1000.00 bucks.
now a lot of O scale modeler simply will not pay that for plastic. Example I can buy O scale brass models done by Overland OMI
like the E-6 and E 7 E8 and re-due the drives and new details and paint them for for about 800. Now I have a brass model for close to plastic.
more bang for the buck. The other thing you need to watch in Atlas O scale is the drives that they put in, some of the designs the builders come up with are just
stupid. They will not pull 6 cars up a minimal grade. the were termed the China vertical drives. Motor mounted vertical with a small flywheel. Please contact me if you need more in put on this. Most of this is my opinion based on preferences.

I just heard from my sales rep at Atlas and the Mopac GP7s haven’t shipped yet and are due later this summer so that tells me they’ve been done. I looked on eBay and saw another road name for sale so I assume many of the O scalers will have some experience with the drives and we’ll know if they are worth buying. Their catalog shows them at $499.95If anyone if interested we could accept reservations through the company store just contact me at [email protected]

Thanks for the info and up date. If the can do these for 499.00 retail that would be something.
Now here is a little bit to watch for. Atlas finally did complete the entire train for the California Zeyfr, but it took them
5 years to do it. Key models announce there CZ Project in O scale be fore Atlas, Key has not delivered there first car
as yet. But this is for the hi end market buyers the 10 car train will be close to 18-20 K.Because of this delay many people are pulling out of the project. But Dan Devita for Key Model has said he can not cancel
the project as he is in it for over $ 500,000.Bill Basden Delta Models
