Athearn has released some new Genesis line TP Box Cars, but I’m having trouble tracking down their prototype information. The reporting mark is TP. The numbers are 780622, 780597 and 780589. Here’s a link to Athearn’s page: http://www.athearn.com/Search/Default.aspx?SearchTerm=50’+PC%26F+10’+Box+ATHG&CatID=THRF&RN=MP.
Lee A. Gautreaux, aka The RailGoat, has a listing of TP freight cars, but doesn’t show anything in that number range: http://www.railgoat.railfan.net/other_cars/tp_cars/tp_number/index.htm and I couldn’t find any pictures of the cars with TP reporting marks.
I did find some MP cars very close to that number range that look like the car Athearn modeled. They are MP series 780775-780874 built by Pacific Car & Foundry. Maybe they originally were TP and then later went to MP? Athearn also released the same car with IC reporting markers that are ex-MP (or TP?) if that helps track them down. http://www.athearn.com/Search/Default.aspx?SearchTerm=50’+PC%26F+10’+Box+ATHG&CatID=THRF&RN=IC
The cars look nice, but if they’re a foobee I’ll pass. There are other authentic cars out there I don’t have yet. Besides, I thought Genesis wasn’t supposed to do foobees.
Thanks for your help,

Should have Ellcon National Brake Wheels, too.
The number series they are using shows the following cars:
MP 780575-780635 built July 1970; PC&F; Freight Saver 20″ cushion EOCC;
I don’t have any listed with TP as the reporting marks…especially the PC&F type-RBL’s. It appears that there is an error on the freight car listing…as the color picture clearly shows the TP reporting marks.

Here’s a pre-production shot of a Mopac RBL Moloco is bringing out. Beautiful RTR model and not a foobie. The MPHS is in discussions with Nick Moloco on selling these through the company store they haven’t arrived yet.image.jpeg[/attachment:11z1tmju]image.jpeg[/attachment:11z1tmju]

Charlie – Thanks for sharing the info about the MP Moloco RBL. I’ve been hoping for something Mopac from him for a while and when those come out I’ll be out of excuses (although I want their ART cars as well).

We have both the Mopac and Wabash ownership cars in stock for a little less than Moloco sells them for if you do get around to buying them.http://mopac.org/store/models-and-decals/ho-scale-rolling-stock?start=12

I wanted to see when the TP cars in the 780575-780635 may have been restenciled as MP cars so I looked in my April 20, 1979 ORER. Not only were these cars still TP, but the next group, 780636-780674, were too. So, the Freight Car Journal 25 was in error showing these as MP cars. Looking further down the list these too were listed as MP in the FCJ 25 and were TP cars per the ORER in April 1979.
781000-781068
781100-781199
781200-781299In defense of David Casdorph, a Joe D’Elia and Gene Semon who put the journal together, the Texas & Pacific, C&EI, M-I merged under the Missouri Pacific on October 15, 1976. I know some of the information they used to compile FCJ 25 were MP equipment diagrams so depending on the date of the drawing or corrections made to the drawings the cars in these series could well have been restenciled as MP and the drawings would have reflected this. The restenciling of freight cars was a ‘moving target’ and a TP car wouldn’t get restenciled MP until it was shopped for mechanical reasons on a rip track or car shop.

June 15, 2016 at 2:10 am #7976John GaravagliaParticipantIt may indeed be difficult…but the point remains “don’t believe everything you read”…The roster in the journal shows the cars being delivered with MP initials…and in fact they were T&P cars.
June 17, 2016 at 2:45 am #7981thedabibb26ParticipantI just purchased on of these cars but why does it have a build date of 7-70 on left side and build date of 2-75 on the right side?
June 19, 2016 at 3:04 pm #7982peggyrothschildParticipantRick
Athearn made a mistake; the NEW light weight date of 7-70 is correct for these cars and the built date should be the same. -
