Here is a question posted to our Facebook page, I am posting it here, hopefully someone can answer:

I am particularly interested in history of MP because my grandfather was a cook for their work gangs. They hired a company for that and I believe it was Peterson Fell. My grandfather, Carl C. Bandy, had a lifetime pass for Missouri Pacific. I do not know what happened to it. He died in 1963. One of the best cooks that ever was. He and his wife lived on the railroad cars and traveled from place to place where the work gangs went. Is there any record of this company? I may have the name wrong. Thank you, Eleanor McWilliams

I never heard any stories about company hired cooks for bunk car outfits. I think it is possible that individual gangs were allowed to hire their own cooks. If so, I would imagine that each member of the gang was required to contribute a set amount on a regular basis. Most of the stories that I heard involved members of the gang doing the cooking and clean up chores.

If anyone has any information with reference to bunk car cooks, I would love to see it.
