In the Eagle article on MoPac steel gondolas, Fall 2009, Ed Hawkins mentions this series of 100 drop end gondolas built at DeSoto in 1948 to the general pattern of the thousands of 52′-6″ gondolas built by MP during the postwar era. The paragraph notes that no photos of this series had turned up.

This series was renumbered to 660000-660099. Cars are equipped with a Universal lever action handbrake, which is barely visible in this shot.

Great find Ron. What a fine load too! Great place to put all that junk we accumulate. I take it no model is available for these cars.

In theory, you could combine a Sunshine MP gon with somebody’s plastic gondola drop ends. Tangent comes to mind, if you don’t mind cutting up a one-piece body. Spare body castings and drop ends are actually available on the Tangent website under the ACF welded gon page.
I would note that the Sunshine kit is a ‘one-piece’ where sides and ends are cast together, so in effect you’d have to turn it back into a flat kit.
So, in short, I’m not crazy enough, or maybe to be polite one could say I don’t have that much modeling time, for me to take on one of these.

I agree, I am too far along to work at bashing this model. Although it is appealing. I have about four or five MP resin kit gons in various states of assembly. Jerry
