I was looking at the all-time MP steam roster from the MPHS and noticed something I found new or unusual. I was always of the opinion that the whole 1300-class locomotive were MP, but 10 are listed as originally PRR. Were they actually owned by the Pennsy or did the USRA moved the order from the PRR to the MP. Jerry Michels

If memory serves, those engines were assigned by the USRA to the PRR, but the self-proclaimed “Standard” didn’t want standardized engines not born in Juniata. I don’t know if the PRR actually used them much or not (I can’t get to my copy of MoPac Power right now), but MoPac benefited from PRR haughtiness.

Joe’s Mopac Power advises the PRR never received them as they only wanted ‘home grown’ locomotives from their Altoona shops. They were switched to MP while still being constructed.

Thanks, I thought as much but wanted some confirmation. Jerry Michels
