Added a Kadee 50′ boxcar to the branch’s 1979 inventory. Much of the factory lettering was removed with a decal remover then given a coat of Dullcote. After this was dry I went over the sides with turpentoid mixed with a little burnt Sierra oil paint. Roof was brush pained gray, then the stiffeners painted with Burnt Sierra and some rust areas added.
I then airbrushed patches of Tru-Color 118 on the roof to match an overhead photo I had of a SSW boxcar. Last bit of detailing was to use a light brown pencil to show where the doors scraped the sides. Added decals for the U-1 code, COTS and ACI label to bring it up to the 1970’s.
I remember several cars like this in the late 1970’s where some of the railroads were deferring maintenance on their older freight cars. [attachment=1:1nmqodd5]image.jpeg[/attachment:1nmqodd5]
