About Our Organization
Our mission is to preserve and promote the heritage of the Missouri Pacific Railroad and its affiliates. This includes the Texas & Pacific, Chicago & Eastern Illinois, Kansas Oklahoma & Gulf, Alton & Southern and many other roads that were part of the MP family.
Please consider becoming a member and help us keep this history alive.
Our History
The Missouri Pacific Historical Society, Inc. was organized as a not-for-profit corporation in 1980. It is chartered in the state of Missouri for the purpose of obtaining, preserving, and sharing information and material relating to the Missouri Pacific Railroad and its subsidiaries.
Company Store
Our Company Store carries a wide variety of items that are sure to please the Missouri Pacific modeler or historian. We have a nice inventory and selection of apparel, models, books, CD/DVDs, among other items that are available and ready to ship.
All sales at the Company Store benefit the Society and enable us to support the Archives and fund on-going operating expenses.
MPHS Produced Books
Charlie Duckworth’s latest book for the Society, titled “Selected Photographs from the Missouri Pacific Historical Society Archives,” is in stock at our Store. It features mostly black & white images from the Joe Collias collection which was acquired by our archives. These images were taken by Joe, Wayne Leeman and others. Images include Missouri Pacific, Texas & Pacific, Missouri-Illinois, the Muskogee Roads and Missouri Southern trains. This book can be ordered now with free shipping.
MPHS Produced Books
Charlie’s first book, “Down the Iron Mountain Route,” is still available. It’s an interesting look at the railroad in Arkansas and is based on information derived from the ICC valuation efforts which took place in the early 1900s.
Doc's Caboose
Doc’s Caboose, in Kansas City, MO is an official merchandising partner of the MPHS.
More About Us / What We Do
More of Our History
The current MPHS is an outgrowth of a prior group which was formed in 1974. The society’s area of interest includes not only the Missouri Pacific Railroad, past to present, but its predecessor railroads. These include but are not limitied to Texas & Pacific; Chicago & Eastern Illinois; St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico; International Great Northern; Gulf Coast Lines; St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern; New Orleans, Texas and Mexico; Missouri-Illinois.
If you are interested in helping us preserve the history of the Missouri Pacific, its predecessors, and subsidiaries, please consider becoming an MPHS member.
Annual Convention
Annual meetings began in 1981 and are rotated throughout the Missouri Pacific system as feasible. In addition to the society’s business, varied programs covering the Missouri Pacific and its history are given for the benefit of those attending. There are also opportunities to visit/tour railroad-related venues in the area. When possible, a train ride is provided.
Please visit our convention page for more information.
The Eagle Magazine
The Society publishes an illustrated quarterly magazine called “The Eagle.” Each issue contains current news and articles of historical interest. Rosters of equipment, technical information and data, and modeling projects are just a few of many items of interest published along with the business of the society. All members are urged to contribute material for publication. Along with the magazine, the Society produces a full color calendar of photos from across the railroad covering all eras.
Be sure and check the renewal date on the address insert that comes with each issue of the magazine. If it ends with the current issue (indicated above), you should renew, immediately. This will ensure that you receive the next issue without interruption. If your renewal dues payment arrives late, your subscription to the magazine could lapse and you might miss an issue. If that happens your only option will be to buy one through the Company Store… if there are any copies available.
Save yourself some trouble. Renew, NOW, don’t delay. Our production runs do not include very many extra issues. Once the supply is exhausted, there will be no more. Remember, prompt renewal is helpful to both you and the Society. If you have any questions about your magazine subscription, the annual calendar or any other membership related questions, send a message to [email protected].
Please visit our The Eagle Magazine page for more information.
