Ron and Jerry
I’m 99% certain that these cars never received ladders but always retained the individual grab irons. As Ron point out there was only 250 of these owned by the MP. Due to the small inventory and being built in 1918 they didn’t get rebuilt into steel cars as the 40’ SS cars did nor have I seen any evidence of them going into MoW service. All probably due to the age of the underframe and the MP having a larger inventory of the 1926-27 SS boxcars available for rebuilding.
The Accurail USRA Mopac model is quite nice and after replacing the cast on grabs with wire ones it’s hard to tell it’s not a resin kit. The Accurail MP lettering is well done to and at $16 + $6 shipping (eBay search today) you can add a couple to your fleet without spending a lot.
