I am writing to let the Missouri Pacific Historical Society know that 1,000 Texas Railroad Negatives from the Everett L. DeGolyer Jr. Collection of United States Railroad Photographs are now available online in the Railroads: Photographs, Manuscripts, and Imprints digital collection.
The railroads included are Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway (ATSF), Fort Worth and Denver Railway Company (FWD), Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (MKT, Katy), Missouri Pacific Railroad Company (MOPAC), St. Louis-San Francisco Railway Company (SLSF), St. Louis Southwestern Railway Company (SSW, Cotton Belt), Southern Pacific Company (SP), Texas and New Orleans Railroad Company (TNO), and Texas & Pacific Railway Company (T&P).
You can read more about the eight major Texas railroads depicted in the project, thanks to the generous support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services through a grant to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission as part of the TexTreasures program.
The freely accessible files can be used for many purposes, including the study of Texas railroads, economic development, and transportation history, as well as Texas history, in general.
Attached is a .pdf card that provides more details of the project. I hope you and your colleagues will help us get the word out by sharing the card or the online link to the Texas Railroad Negatives project.

How did you copy the photos and keep the sizes. I tried, but they copied all cropped and cut up.

October 2, 2015 at 8:27 pm #7305The GP7 in Jenks blue looks freshly painted and still has its original 4-digit road number. I always thought that Jenks blue began being applied around the same time as the 1962 renumbering.
October 3, 2015 at 3:01 pm #7307My search for “Missouri Pacific” yeilded about 150 images from the DeGolyer collection. Hope SMU continues to add images.

I did a screen copy (control, alt, screen print) and the opened Adobe Photoshop and did a “copy from the clipboard”. Then just saved it as a jpg.

In addition to MP, there are many more T&P, IGN, MKT, Frisco, and other Texas lines, some of the photos dating back to the 1800’s. They also have Baldwin builder cards, maps, and some other interesting items.
In the top right corner above the photo is a DOWNLOAD button – you can then save the images to your harddrive. However the online images are higher resolution and you can use the zoom tool to get great detail on these photos.
