My layout’s time period ends with April 1966 when the roofwalk requirement on freight cars ended. My time period extends back somewhat from that date, to the mid 50s. The through passenger train on this line was discontinued in 1954, but backdating it to the last years of steam is stretching it a bit. In terms of motive power, this means there would be mostly blue and gray diesels, but there could be a few in Jenks blue. So I could use an SW1200, the first 30 or so of which were delivered in 1965. The Rapido order site showed the MP versions all in screaming eagle scheme, which is several years too late for me. So I decided I could just order an undec one, given that the paint scheme would be pretty easy. You may recall that, until about 1970 or so, even the handrails were blue. I figured I might, at worst, have to take the shell off the body, and maybe partially disassemble it.
OMG.
The undec version comes in a box that has a body with the drivetrain and the Type A trucks, a set of the Flexicoil trucks, about five different hood moldings, I don’t know how many cab sides and ends, and probably twenty sprues of parts, presumably including every single possible accessory and variation ever produced by EMD. I suppose I’ll have plenty to do this winter…….
RG7
Actually I bought two of these.
Figured I could do one in Jenks blue and one in TRRA Red.
Opened the box.
Stared for a while.
Closed the box, put on shelf.
Might get back to this in a few years, when I run out of grain car kits.
