I’m interested in finding a copy (electronic or paper) of the system freight schedules (circular 61) for the late 1970s or early 1980s. The wx4 website has a circular 61 from 1974 that is very useful but I’d like to find something close to the timeframe I’m most interersted in which is 1979-1980.

Also, in case anyone needs a link to the 1974 condensed freight schedule, see link below.

By the late 1970’s Circular 61 was stored in a computer file that the Mopac used called ‘Administrative Message’ it was an early form of email but instead of being addressed to an individual it went only to a printer or CRT screen. While the earlier C-61 were printed in small books by the time period you’re asking about they weren’t being printed for mass distribution. The end user just printed off the schedules that pertained to their territory.

    Charlie:

Thanks for the explanation. With the MP being at the forefront with TCS, it doesn’t surprise me they would be an early adopter of going to computerized schedules and eliminating the printed books. Perhaps someone saved a computer printout from the late 1970s or early 1980s and still has the document? I’ve seen for other railroads computer printouts of schedules as late the mid-1990s.

I also found the 1974 info very interesting. Similar data for 1980 would be even more helpful for me, although then I would probably need a little help correlating it to the 1980 timetable. Meanwhile I will see if I can add some interest to the operations on Van Buren and Coffeyville subs with the 1974 info.
