I’ve seen where these models are being posted by Overland Models for pre-order. Anyone have any comments on them? I think the F3s look very nice. Although the descriptions are cryptic (e.g. they were first described as MP with T&P sub-lettering but now they are not, just MP). I am most curious about the C&EI GP7s by Atlas. Are they new tooling or the new paint on the old version with thick handrails?

The F-units are a project Nate and several other of us have been working on with Genesis. Hopefully they will be a big seller.

Atlas retooled their Chinese made GP7 with smaller handrails and a provision for several sizes of fuel tank. It is my understanding the metal frame tooling was broken so they made a new one.

I have two of the GP7s and they would look nice in combination with the F-units. Maybe Nate can provide some info the process and their intended concept. Good luck! They sure will be welcome. Jerry

Do you know it the Atlas CEI Gp7 will be DCC or just DCC-ready?

I’m a little late to this thread but does anyone know how far south the ex C&EI GP’s would have ventured in this scheme? I model the Temple, Taylor and Austin triangle and have alway’s been a fan of these with their Hancock whistles.
I have these new Atlas run GP7’s in the Whitman MKT version they did a few years ago and most of the road names I have seen need to be “accurized” some. Mainly horns, sunshades and other small details. To keep prices down they tend to make them all the same, except for major details like fuel tanks, db’s or not etc.
I am very excited about the Genesis F sets as well. Although the prices of Genesis is getting a bit scary.

Steve, I am not positive, but I doubt that the C&EI Geeps went systemwide without the original numbers being painted out, leaving a big black area (easy to model) along the hood.

I agree Genesis is getting pricey, but oh what models! You need to remember I am from the generation that had to put up with incorrect fuel tanks and had to shave off DB features for Athearn blue-box models. I remember when Athearn came out with SD40-2s without DBs! We were in heaven! Jerry

    Jerry,
Thanks for the reply. In looking at all my Mop books and personal pix I cannot seem to find a date when the Jenks dipped F’s retired. In my teens in the mid to late 70’s, I would ride out to Wetmore Rd in San Antonio to watch the Mopac freights roll in and I cannot ever remember seeing them, at least on that line from Austin. Lots of SD’s and U-boats though.
Don’t get me wrong I love Genesis locos I have a room full of em. However sometimes I miss the modeling. I still have several of those accurized, super detailed and painted blue box and Athearn locos from the eighties and nineties I spent hours on.

The last two F units retired were the (1)932 and one other TP unit. I saw this unit twice in its last months, once on a tour of Centennial shop and once on a trip into Wichita. This unit was also the highest-numbered of the T&P F-unit order, and one of the four painted in the passenger colors.

Date was the spring of 1974.
