After years of wanting to, I have joined the Society. I grew up in Jefferson County Missouri and my parents were from Washington County, Missouri. As a result, I have specific interest in the Missouri Pacific especially the Missouri-Illinois, Iron Mountain & Southern, and the Mississippi River & Bonne Terre railroads. My dad worked for a time at the Desoto car shops and I remember his stories of when Mr. Jenks came to visit. I also have interest in the Frisco railroad. Currently I live in St. Charles County, Missouri and I am willing to also discuss the KATY and the Norfolk Southern. Modeling, I did some organizing for a fictitious railroad named the Gateway Southern it was set the 1970’s and 80’s. Running from St. Louis to points south on the western side of the Mississippi River, it was basically a spin-off of MoPac partially recreating the Iron Mountain. There was some joint running with the Frisco lines in the area. Alas, children came along and time/space didn’t allow the actual layout to match the level of the organizing. The children are grown now and it maybe time to pull the rolling stock out of storage. But I am interested in more than just modeling, I am a history nut at heart. The last thing I’ll share is, while I loved the Jenks Blue locomotives, the Missouri Pacific yellow and gray units were really sharp looking (when clean). Better looking than those that had the word Union on the side.

Keep a close watch for the imminent release of Charlie Duckworth’s new book on the M-I (you can order it from the company store – IIRC, there is a discount for members). The first ever book on this MoPac subsidiary. I too have a keen interest in the M-I, having grown up in Herculaneum. Many family members worked at PPG in Crystal City, so Frisco is right up there too.
