Not the T&P we knew and loved. Will the UP attorneys be contacting them? 😆

Makes me wonder why MP didn’t puts nice red sheet metal buzz saw on tenders, sort of like the Katy did. Looks kind of good, I think,
February 19, 2020 at 3:45 pm #9612Bud MossParticipantMost likely the reason why the P didn’t go in for medallions and such on steam or streamlining was the fact that it was in receivership until 1956, and had financial complications through the 1970s.
February 19, 2020 at 11:31 pm #9613princessclyne69ParticipantLooks real good on that Vanderbilt tender….
I believe the last pre-bankruptcy president L. W. Baldwin was reported to have said something along the lines of ‘the only proper color for a steam locomotive is black’.

February 20, 2020 at 5:20 am #9614Bud MossParticipantThat is right. Supposedly there was a proposal to streamline some of the pacifics, but it never happened.
February 20, 2020 at 3:32 pm #9615bargetanikaParticipantDidn’t the Iron Mountain do olive green boilers and yellow lettering? Maybe even oxide cab roofs? Sounds stunning. Any better confirmation of these colors?
February 20, 2020 at 3:41 pm #9616peggyrothschildParticipantI don’t recall which Eagle it was in but we did uncover a MP drawing at the railroad where they’d added streamlining around an outline of a Pacific type. So it was being kicked around.
August 12, 2020 at 4:49 pm #9844bargetanikaParticipantCan you see this baby hustling the Coast Daylight at 80 MPH? 😮 😆
August 12, 2020 at 8:15 pm #9851Thomas HobackParticipantOnly if the Coast Daylight is equipped with GOTransit-style bi-level cars and punctuated with a brass-rail heavyweight observation car.
I enjoy these Laffs of the Day, Pat. Hope you continue to keep your eyes open for them.

August 13, 2020 at 12:55 am #9853bargetanikaParticipantThere was a guy at a club around here who would bring his 12 year old kid that actually had a train much like you describe. The engine was a Proto USRA 0-8-0, really nice for a kid that age. It pulled a passenger train composed of random Athearn heavyweight and streamlined cars, with some Bachmann 1860 open platform wood cars mixed in, some in circus colors, and had some cheap wide cupola caboose on the end. All going around the club at 80 or 90 MPH.
I changed my thinking though when I realized the youngster was seriously “challenged.” Nevertheless, is the club the right place for therapy like that? Tough question.
