Restoration update from the Heart of Dixie RR Museum
August 9, 2015 at 5:57 pm #7034kenrisParticipantThis is a nice write-up with a thank you to the MPHS. I would have liked to see a photo of the restored exterior.
August 9, 2015 at 6:56 pm #7035luisflierl26ParticipantHere is the photo they shared to MPHS Facebook page. I’d like to see a full photo. Glad they restored it, another reason to visit that museum some day.

August 9, 2015 at 10:25 pm #7038luisflierl26ParticipantIt looks like they do operate some of their equipment, I wonder if this will enter their operational fleet. They have an interesting collection of passenger cars.

Dick I would have to say they painted the roof all gray like the sides. They should have left everything above upper yellow stripe stainless
including the ends.I am building an O scale model of this car different #, and all my research and photos show stainless upper roof and ends as well.
I have modified an Atlas O Cal Z car o the Mopac configuration, they use the same car with modified skirts.Bill Basden Delta Models http://www.deltamodelsusa.com

Their painter did get initially get the striping wrong on the stainless strip above and below the window band – he painted it yellow initially and they had him go back and correct it. I can’t tell from the photos how they finished the roof…but it should have been left in natural stainless as others pointed out.
August 11, 2015 at 5:50 am #7047mopacKeymasterIt is a very nice car and a restore. Love to see a full broadside photo.

Its possible that the metal had been primed or otherwise treated in that application so that it was not possible (or too expensive) to return to bare metal. In any event, its a great looking restoration. I’m glad that they chose to return it to its original colors.

There was some earlier questions as to if the roof was painted or stainless steel. It’s quite plain the roof is unpainted stainless steel. An absolutely beautiful restoration!
