Here are four pictures of tank cars in Maintenance of Way service being used for water on gang outfits.

The second and last photo are auxiliary steam tenders used behind freights to eliminate water stops. They were modified from private tank cars the MP had in derailments. MPX 1680 looks pretty much like they did in freight service with the hand railings and platform around the former dome.

What is the auxiliary water car capacity? 8000 or 10000 gallon? Thinking about making a couple. But need the right tank car to start.

Since they were built from damaged private tank cars the capacity varied but I’d go with the 8,000 type. There’s an article in one of the older Eagles on water cars showing a diagram of the platform.
