I thought I would post my latest project. It started out as a OMI import of a USRA 0-8-0. I purchased it as a basket case. The previous owner had stripped the locomotive superstructure down to the bare bones including removing the boiler bands. Very little of the detail was included in this basket Case.I had to scratch make the majority of the detailed parts for the locomotive. All the appliances that are Mopac specific are scratch made. I purchase this basket case with the full intentions of building this locomotive from the plans of a 1979 January Model railroader magazine and pictures from the Mopac Power book.
The locomotive is done and waiting for a tender.
Very nice work. BTW, what was used for the cab shade – copper sheet?
The cab shades are ten thousand brass sheet. 98% of the locomotive was built using a torch. The copper look on the shades is due to over heating when soldering to the cab. The brass coloring will come back too the entire locomotive during the vinegar and salt paste step.
I was going to build a tender when a buddy sold me his spare CV tender that is proper for this locomotive.
