Does anyone have specific steam locomotive retirement records giving the date that 4-6-0 2522 was retired by Missouri Pacific? I would like to get an idea of when it was acquired by the Fort Smith, Subiaco & Rock Island. The coal mines feeding the Subiaco closed in 1945, for the most part, but sporadic freight service continued until the flue time expired on the 2522 in December 1949. When an extension on flue time extension was declined by the ICC boiler inspector, all operations ceased but the railroad was kept intact in the hope that coal mining would resume. Mining never did resume on a scale sufficient to support the railroad, and the line was formally abandoned in 1962.
Thanks,
Bill Pollard
